I made a very brief assessment below of the election process in which the concepts of freedom and democracy were largely abused.
There have been many technical analyses written about the presidential elections in the United States for a long time. The economy, immigration, ethnic groups, the Israeli-Palestinian issue, and many other things. Of course, these were the main factors in voter behavior. But what I want to touch on is another factor that caused the Democrats to suffer their historic defeat: the arrogance of the Democrats.
This is not just an American problem; people around the world who believe in ideologies that place a break with tradition at the center of their thinking tend to look down on conservatives. As a result, they view progressivism, science, freedom, democracy, and many other blessings of the modern world as things that are solely in their hands. So instead of taking a serious stance against their conservative opponents’ criticisms on important issues, they often use them as subjects for their own so-called-humor.
The fact that the Democrats’ response to Trump’s criticisms on issues such as irregular immigration in America, high inflation, the defeat in Afghanistan, and aid to Ukraine, throughout the election process centered on Trump’s gaffes, his private life, or statements that Trump was a threat to democracy is a concrete example of this. Indeed, none of the smear campaigns that the Democrats conducted against Trump were enough to win them the election. Because the kind of arrogance mentioned above prevented them from seeing the truth. Instead of the fact that the criticisms coming from conservatives could have a logical basis, the idea that this was more impulsive or primitive and that their conservative opponents did not fully embrace certain democratic values and therefore did not fully comprehend what they were criticizing was considered a more preferable understanding for the Democrats.
The Democrats’ arrogance was turning them into tyrants. For example, America was rapidly evolving into a process where non-LGBT people were seen as homophobic, those who opposed immigration, especially for economic and social reasons, were seen as fascist, and white Christian men were seen as second-class citizens. Their response to high inflation was to claim that they inherited the economy from Trump as a wreck. And even the immense media and social media power that claimed that the policies they were implementing on the people were based on reasons such as greater freedom and democracy, was not enough to save them from certain defeat.
The process of this election should be discussed more than its outcome; the reason for the Democrats' defeat should be discussed more than the Republicans' victory.
